Faculty/Staff Decision-Making Tree: Working With Distressed Students
Due to the frequency of contact that faculty and staff have with students, they are often in the position to notice when a student is in distress. During these times, it can be challenging to know how to help; you may also be unsure whether it is a critical situation that merits a quick response. The decision-making tree (see link below) is designed to assist faculty and staff in determining whether a quick response is necessary, who to call, and how to respond.
While the decision-making tree is designed to assist you, please know that whenever you are in doubt about the proper course of action, the Counseling Center is available to help. On-call counselors are available during office hours for consultation and to address the urgent needs of students.
