Application for MHPA Membership

Application Deadline: FRIDAY OCTOBER 13th, 4:30pm. Interested applicants are expected to submit the following online application, or complete the attached application and turn it in to the Counseling Center, Whitlock Bldg, Room 571. 


Thank you for your interest in the Mental Health Peer Advocate (MHPA) program! MHPA is a student outreach group designed to facilitate the connection between the Eastern Kentucky University students and the Counseling Center. Through this outreach program, enthusiastic and dependable EKU students have the opportunity to share important information about mental health issues and the services provided by the Counseling Center to the EKU student body. Each fall semester undergraduate students from all majors with a passion for mental health are invited to apply to the MHPA program. Members should expect to allocate a minimum of 1hr a week to MHPA-related activites (this includes general body meetings which occur once a week).  Applicants must be available Wednesdays from 3-4pm in the Spring 2018 semester for weekly meetings! We invite all interested student to apply, regardless of Counseling Center client status. Applicants should have a general understanding and knowledge base about mental health issues specifically as it pertains to college age students. MHPA members will be responsible for developing and executing outreach programs and presentations that will: 

  • Promote emotional well-being among the student body
  • Raise awareness regarding college mental health issues
  • Provide education and resources
  • Provide a link between the Counseling Center and student body
  • Increase awareness among students about services available to them

Applicants selected for interview will be notified by Monday, Oct. 23rd.

Natalie Deering, MS LPA, is the MHPA coordinator and coordinator of community intervention for the Counseling Center. She will assist students with program development and implementation. In addition, MHPA students will have the opportunity to work with other Counseling Center clinicians and graduate student trainees.
